Reproductive Justice: Beyond only Abortion [$20 Suggested]

from $5.00
sold out

Instructor: Dahiya | Wednesday | July 6 | 8:00-9:30 PM ET

This teach-in will provide an introduction to reproductive justice (RJ), a framework and philosophy about reproduction that was coined in 1994. Reproductive justice is about the right to safe abortion, but it also encompasses much more than just the right to abortion. In fact, RJ refuses to exclusively center abortion at the core of its politics, and refuses and thinks beyond the limiting binary of being pro-choice versus pro-life. RJ activists argue that one cannot separate abortion from the larger political goal of justice in all its forms and for all peoples.

In this teach-in, we’ll learn about the community organizing and activism that led to the creation of RJ in 1994, and study the central pillars of RJ, including bodily empowerment, community self-determination, intersectionality, and interdependence. RJ calls on us to dream and think about the politics of birth in a way that connects to all aspects of our lives. A teach-in about its central core principles is a good place to begin.

Direct student donations are a crucial aspect of our funding model, and without them, we are not able to pay instructors a living wage. We encourage you to pick the payment tier that corresponds with your needs, but ask that you please consider our commitment to fair labor practices when doing so.

If it is difficult right now for you to make a donation, here is a promo code to register for the teach-in at no cost: SNCYWXK.

If you would like to pay it forward in the future, you can make a one-time donation to our general scholarship fund.
