In the last 200 years, there’s probably no thinker more misunderstood than Karl Marx, and no idea more derided than communism. But what exactly did Karl Marx say, and what exactly did he mean by “communism”? Join us for three-weeks as we dive into some of the major ideas of Marxism, and close-read the manifesto he co-wrote with Frederick Engels. We’ll explore the major concepts of the text, the 19th century context in which it was written, and the larger cultural impact of this important thinker. From the analysis of class categories, to calls for strikes and abolition, to an unrivaled imagination of the future, this text has it all.

Classes are recorded to allow for students to participate asynchronously. If you want to take a class but cannot make the class time, sign up for the asynchronous audit option to follow along on your own. Recordings are password protected and will only be available for the duration of the class and two weeks after it ends.
