bell hooks on Engaged Pedagogy
Instructor: Annu Dahiya
Monday, August 19, 6-8 PM ET
ONLINE
Just in time for back-to-school time for educators across the country, in this teach-in, we will examine and discuss bell hooks’ idea of engaged pedagogy, which she develops in Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom. hooks’ ideas are powerfully prescient: she called for us to think about what is now called “social and emotional learning” back in 1994 before it was coined and became popular. After studying the core concepts of engaged pedagogy, we’ll collectively brainstorm how we might put hook’s philosophy of pedagogy into praxis. What challenges arrive when we do so, and how can we work through them? No preparation necessary!
—
These are one-time, synchronous opportunities to join us and learn in community. Teach-ins will not be recorded.
We have provided options to donate $10 or $25 as part of the registration process in order to make it easier to donate. Donations made through our website as part of the registration process are non-refundable and are not tax-deductible. For donations to be tax-deductible, they must be made here.
